Leonida’s wildlife will be much more than the alligators already seen in GTA VI footage. In Game Informer’s new cover story, Rockstar says the game features over 170 animal species across its urban areas, countryside, wetlands and waters.
What animals has Rockstar named?
Rockstar’s Michael Kane says the total includes more than 60 types of birds and over 30 land mammals, alongside fish, reptiles and other animals. He specifically confirmed manatees, flamingos and pelicans, as well as the previously shown alligators.
Leonida will also feature invasive species, including green iguanas, feral cats, cane toads, nine-banded armadillos and rhesus macaques. At sea, players can encounter different shark species, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish.
Rare and Legendary animals
Rockstar says some animals can be tracked and fall into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary categories. It has kept their identities secret so players can find them while exploring.
The article also describes work on animal movement and appearance, including wet or dirty fur and distinct behaviour for marine creatures. Rockstar has not detailed the rewards for finding Legendary animals, so it is too early to assume the system works exactly like the one in Red Dead Redemption 2.
